European Online Job Day


EURES Cork/ EURES Ireland, together with the direct support of the European Commission, is organising an European Online Job Day aimed at attracting skilled IT/ Business Service talent from Europe to join Ireland’s booming technology sector.


What’s happening?

The event, happening exclusively online on the 4th of May 2017, will take place virtually on the event’s website created on the European portal:


Through the website and its interactive elements the jobseekers will be able to apply for jobs, make contact with you and book job interviews during the event. EURES Ireland will assist you with preselection of candidates and interviews scheduling if required. Interviews with the selected candidates may be conducted online on the day of the event using Netop Live Guide available through the website or any other software (e.g. Skype, video conferencing) preferred by you. In addition, live streaming of your company’s presentations, live broadcast of pre-recorded videos and public &amp private chats will be available to all European jobseekers targeted for this event.


Who will be attending?

The event will be widely advertised in Europe. IT/ Business service professionals will be targeted through a European promotional campaign including: social media advertising (European Commission and EU/EEA countries), online advertising on a number of ICT/ Tech websites in Europe, information distributed to EURES departments and Technical Engineering/ICT Professional Bodies in all EU/EEA countries. As the event is funded and supported by the EU Commission there is no cost to your company to participate.


How to participate?

The registration for jobseekers will be open from the 4th of April and from then we will start promoting your jobs in Europe. We would advise that you have your vacancies (if possible) uploaded by this date. This will ensure the maximum amount of time for advertising vacancies throughout Europe and for Jobseekers to browse and apply for positions before the day of the event.

Burden Tracker Project (Provision of Food Information to Consumers)


The aim of this initiative is to identify specific pieces of EU legislation that create significant burdens for businesses, with a particular focus on SMEs. The legislation that has been identified this year is Regulation No. 1169-2011 on the Provision of Food Information to Consumers. Some aspects of the legislation that have been identified as burdensome are as follows:


  • Obligation for food business operators in the catering and restaurant sector to provide allergen information
  • mandatory food information (art. 9)
  • storage conditions or conditions of use (art. 25)
  • mandatory nutrition declaration
  • restrictions to the presentation of the products (art. 34)
  • fair information practices (article 7)


We’re looking to collect data including; anecdotal evidence, estimates of additional costs incurred; inconsistencies in enforcement etc; and written testimonials from business.

International Women’s Day celebrated by local business women

As part of International Women’s Day, a number of key Waterford business agencies came together to host a morning event ‘Transformation & Innovation’ at the Medieval Museum, which attracted a capacity crowd eager to hear inspirational stories and make new connections.


Waterford Local Enterprise Office joined forces with Waterford Chamber, Waterford Micro Business Network, Waterford Social Enterprise Network, Waterford Chamber Skillnet, Network Ireland, Waterford and West Waterford Women in Business for this free event as part of the first nationally co-ordinated ‘Local Enterprise Week’.


Opening the event, MC Nora Widger said it was fantastic to see a full room of business women coming together to celebrate their hard work and dedication.


Keynote speaker at the networking event was Regina Mangan, Managing Director of Liberty Blue Estate Agents, who told of her personal journey from starting out with a business idea and £7 in her pocket, to twenty years later and having just been awarded Best Small Business at the Waterford Business Awards.


Throughout the morning of networking sessions and tasty bites, there were short pop-up presentations from local business women Joyce O’Carroll, Wigworld; Jacinta Burke, Cill Barra Community Sports Centre; Sarah Richards, Seagull Bakery and Carmel Kikkers, Focus Visual Communications, who all gave an account of their road to success and the trials and tribulations along the way.


Closing the event, Head of Enterprise with Waterford City & County Council Richie Walsh said he was inspired by what he heard during the event and wished all the business women the very best of the luck for the future.
