Do you drive in the course of your work?

Road Traffic Act 2016 will have potential impact for those who drive in the course of their work under the influence of intoxicants including alcohol, benzodiazepines and other prescribed medication.

Date: Thursday 21st September 2017

Venue: The Ashling Hotel Dublin

Time: 9.00am to 5.00pm

Random Roadside Drug Testing Commenced on the 13th of April 2017

A commencement order on 13th April 2017 gave effect to the Road Traffic Act 2016. This legislation will make it illegal for motorists to drive while under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, cocaine or heroin. It is also now an offence to drive while under the influence of cannabis containing the drug Salvi-dex which is used in the treatment of multiple sclerosis. Tests may also be conducted for the presence of alcohol, benzodiazepines and other prescribed medication.

Reporting for Work under the Influence of Drugs and Alcohol

Under Section 13(1) b the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 all employees must ensure that they are not under the influence of an intoxicant (defined as including drugs and alcohol and any combination of drugs or of drugs and alcohol) to the extent that he or she is in such a state as to endanger his or her own safety, health or welfare at work or that of any other person. Under Section 13(1)b of the Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 employers are obliged to remove any employee from their place of work, who reports for or is on duty under the influence of intoxicants.

This high value seminar will outline a best practice approach for Irish businesses who are legally obliged to manage the risks of employees who drive in the course of their work.

Business of the Week: Marla Communications

pc0A9TQO 400x400

While branding and marketing strategies remain a key part of the range of services provided by local business Márla Communications, the agency continues to increase their resources and expertise in the area of digital marketing.

Digital marketing has arguably become the most important marketing communication mechanism, with the average person now spending more time online than on all other media combined.

According to Sheila Gallogly, Managing Director of Márla Communications “If a business is not devoting resources to digital marketing, they are at an immediate and serious disadvantage; customer engagement is happening online – all day, every day. However, having a presence on line is not enough; it is essential that businesses have a targeted and measurable approach, based entirely on their customer profile, their wants/needs and expectations”.

Márla Communications have just launched a ‘Digital or Bust’ campaign, highlighting the need for businesses to challenge their own thinking in terms of their on-line strategies, across all digital variables including web communication, search engine optimisation & ad campaigns, social media management and on-line video. As part of this campaign, Márla Communications are offering Chamber Members a FREE website health check throughout the month of June. To avail of this offer, or any of the other digital marketing services offered by Márla Communications please contact Ann Marie Coonan, Marketing Director at Márla Communications.

Since the business was first established in 2006, Márla Communications has built a national client base of over 300 clients, spanning all market sectors including food marketing, tourism, professional services, government bodies and charities. The team work with some of Ireland’s most prestigious brands, including ABP Meats, Portobello Institute, Kerrigan’s Food for Fitness and The Irish Exporters Association; as a local agency, they also work with a wide range of Waterford based companies including Sienna Home Furnishings, Glorious Sushi, Aoife Hearne and Coffee House Lane. They also work closely with Waterford Council and Waterford Local Enterprise Office.

The team at Márla Communications would be delighted to hear from any of their fellow Chamber members to discuss both their online / offline marketing requirements.
